Introduction to young mobility patterns in Barcelona, air quality exposure and carbon footprint
In this seminar a preliminary solution implemented by UPC students from one side to measure pollution using Cloud-based IoT-enabled AQI sensors embarked in e-micromobility vehicles and from the other side to visualize young population mobility patterns in Barcelona. A dashboard will show very granular pollution maps and carbon footprint estimates depending on the localisation and transportation mode. Incentives for the participation of young citizens (ages from 15 to 23 years from high-schools and University) to design and use the final solution, following citizen science principles, will also be part of this project.
Th final app will complement routing alternatives considering navigators such as Google maps, or Waze that give information of minimum times given different transportation modes or Lobelia that gives information of estimated levels of NO2 and PM10
The attendees will be able to understand a preliminary solutions provided by Telecom School UPC students. The attendees will be able to know the participation of High Schools and UPC students. The attendees might be able to test the first prototype. The attendees will be able to suggest possible improvement
This event is jointly organized by CARNET and UPC

Do you want to know what is MAPPO (MAP+APP+POllution)?
The idea comes from a group of 10 final year undergraduate students in the area of Telecommunication Engineering, not related to urban mobility, automotive or environmental studies that were proposed a challenge to develop a product/service related to urban mobility and the environment in the city with the following requirements:
· To estimate the exposure to pollutants while moving around the city in their daily life, especially when going to school;
· To raise awareness among young people aged 15-23 about the equivalent carbon footprint caused by the means of transport they use;
· Finally, to use knowledge from their own studies as a way of seeing that urban mobility is a cross-cutting field to which many different fields of knowledge can contribute.
As a product they have decided to create an app that shows three alternative routes to get from one place to another in the cities of Barcelona, Terrassa and other cities near Barcelona, i. e. the shortest route, the least polluted route and a and a proposal halfway between the two others.
The app also shows the carbon footprint generated according to the chosen route and mode of transport. The app contains projections of carbon footprint estimates from 1 to 5 years.
Finally, a ranking, as a game between friends, from the same school or the same community, who compete against each other to lead the ranking and see who is the "champion" that generates the least emissions in their mobility.
Currently, the students are in the last period to finish MAPPO and would like to present their solution and receive feedback from other students, teachers, high school students and citizens in general to improve their solution
