Date your City
#DYC An engaging tool for walkability assessments
About this process
This process belongs to Citizen engagement projects
The "Date Your City" tool by EIT Urban Mobility provides a template and method for assessing a city's walkability and streetscape. Based on common online dating app formats, Date Your City allows people to indicate what parts of the streetscape they "match with" - and which ones they don't. It creates a format for people to think about their preferences, increase their awareness on walkability and the quality of public space, and enter into a forum for actionable discussion and debate.
While there are many walking audit tools that exist, the Date your City tool is meant add a playful, easy alternative for people to get involved.
How does it work?
.
Meant to be used on group walks, organisers can download, print and cut out the templates. The participants can hold the template in front of different elements that they come across during their walk and take a photo using their mobile phone - depending on if they like or don't like it. At the end of the walk, the photos can be compiled and discussed to not only assess what makes for great walkability - but also the elements that are more controversial or uncertain - and next steps for continued action.
