Outreach events in Malta
During the past few weeks several community informal outreach events took place in Malta, in which the sCOOL2walk project had the opportunity to be presented to the schools and families from the school community.
FEE Fest – March 22nd – 24th
The FEE Fest is a 3-day fair organised by EkoSkola in Malta with the goal of raising awareness on sustainable mobility in schools. The fair took place in the Zebbug Primary School, and was visited by 880 students and 64 educators from 21 different schools participating in the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) programmes.
Exhibitors in the field of sustainable development shared their initiatives and disseminated educational material to the visitors. Several interactive tasks with children took place including observation tasks and creative activities about open spaces.
The Project Aegle Foundation (PAF) and Transport Authority Malta presented sCOOL2walk in their stand, which reached up to 15 different visiting schools!
Siggiewi sports day – March 26th
“Zerniq Siggiewi” is a yearly event organised by the Siggiewi local council to commemorate Siggiewi day. At the venue, there were activities and stands primarily aimed at children.
Once again, the sCOOL2walk partners PAF and Transport Malta set up a stand to reach out to the community, raise awareness about the project and collect data on walking experiences, as well as educate children about road safety and sustainable transport.
Within the activities were the distribution of freebies to the children and promoting the sCOOL2walk project with interested parents and volunteers.
Impact Fair – March 28th
The Impact Fair is an annual event open to representatives of NGOs and voluntary organisations, members of the business sector and the general public. This year was held at the Salini Resort. The sCOOL2walk project was also promoted here on a stand.
Siggiewi School Trip – April 4th
The Siggiewi School Trip is an extracurricular visit organised by the Siggiewi Primary school for parents and children. During the school outing, the local council introduced the project to key stakeholders including project partners, the community police, the school, and parents among others. Parents shared their concerns and barriers for not walking to school, among those that stood out were over-speeding and lack of infrastructure.
The sCOOL2walk project had the opportunity to reach out to schools and families part of the community. These events helped to raise awareness of the initiative and promote sustainable mobility in the school community in Malta.
