Transform Your Street!
Making youth voices heard through creative expression
About this process
This process belongs to Training programmes
Youth voices need a platform to express their views on questions impacting their daily lives. Focusing on mobility and public space in cities, this campaign includes a creative competition in which young people can reimagine the design of a local street through the creation of collages and visual designs/drawings. You can activate your youth with this page HERE (English).
Cities are like living organisms; ever-changing and adapting to new conditions all while mitigating risks. For the adaptation to better match local needs and desires, citizens must be at the core of the transformation processes. It is not an easy task; we all have busy lives and daily challenges that make it hard to pay attention and engage proactively. Making youth voices heard and included in public hearing processes is even more difficult. So EIT Urban Mobility takes another approach!
Transform Your Street! - Creative collage competition
This campaign aims to get youth organisations and education institutions to invite 15-18-year-olds to express their visions for street (re)design via a creative activity, using the collage as a medium to rethink how their favourite street caters to different users and to nature. All eligible participants are awarded a mini-Masterclass on visual street transformation by Jan Kamensky, an inspiring expert in creating visual transformations of cityscapes. The 4-6 best submissions will be included in an inspirational online catalogue of best-practice examples from Nordic cities (see the section: “What will EIT Urban Mobility do?”).
Available Languages: English, Swedish, Danish, Estonian, Finnish
How do we make it happen?
We reach out to you: educators, coordinators, and parents! You are in close contact with young people and engage with them regularly on a variety of matters related to sustainability and the environment. We will provide you with a campaign package that you can easily use as part of your extra-curricular activities in local youth organisations, Agenda 21-centres, science parks, at home or as part of in-classroom activities at school. Depending on the available time and resources, you can choose the best fit for your plans and programmes. You can opt to run a one-hour art workshop or a longer, project-based learning activity. We recommend using this self-paced e-learning page HERE to inform youth about the assignment. We mostly care about the outcome: take a digital photo of the collages created and submit them for the competition! The deadline for submissions is 17 February 2023. See the practical details below.
What will EIT Urban Mobility do?
EIT Urban Mobility will share the creative collages with Nordic and Baltic cities through an online campaign and an inspirational catalogue of cities’ own best-practice examples, disseminated to other European cities in order to inspire and educate. This initiative is part of the Urban Climate Adaptation in the Nordics project co-funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. The project is delivered by EIT Urban Mobility’s Innovation Hub North.
