1. What is TandEm Women in Cycling?

TandEm Women in Cycling is a train-the-trainer program developed by EIT Urban Mobility and BYCS to empower women to become cycling trainers and mentors in their communities. Through a mix of online and in-person training, participants gain the skills and confidence to teach others how to cycle safely and confidently.

2. Who can apply?

To be eligible for TandEM, you must:

💡 Can residents from Countries Associated with Horizon Europe apply?
Yes! Women residing in Countries Associated with Horizon Europe located in the European Continent are eligible to apply. However:

  • The program does not sponsor visas, so participants must ensure they can travel to Belgium for the in-person training.

  • Travel expenses are only reimbursed up to the program’s fixed ceiling (350 EUR, VAT included). Any additional travel costs must be covered by the participant.

3. Do I need previous experience teaching others how to cycle?

No! TandEM is designed for women of all experience levels. Whether you’re a confident cyclist or just starting to help others, the program provides all the necessary training to guide you.

The program consists of:
🚲 Online learning – Three interactive sessions covering training techniques, safety, and community engagement.
🚲 In-person training in Brussels – A weekend-long hands-on workshop with experienced mentors.

✅ Participants receive 350 EUR as a reward for organizing four training sessions (paid upon submission of required documentation).
✅ Travel expenses for the Brussels training are reimbursed up to 350 EUR (VAT included).
Accommodation and meals during the Brussels training are covered by the program.
All participants must cover any extra travel costs beyond the reimbursement limit.

7. Will I receive a certificate?

Yes! Participants who complete at least 75% of the training and successfully organize their cycling sessions will receive a certificate of participation

8. What kind of cycling sessions do I need to organize?

You will be expected to run at least four sessions focused on:
✔ Teaching beginners how to cycle
✔ Helping cyclists gain confidence in urban settings
✔ Promoting cycling for women in your community
✔ Other creative initiatives like bike repair workshops or cycling mentorship

The format and target audience (adults, children, women from underserved communities, etc.) can be adapted based on your local context.

9. Will I receive support to run my cycling sessions?

Participants are responsible for organizing their sessions, but the program offers training, guidance, and resources. While there is no direct funding for equipment, we encourage participants to explore local partnerships.

10. Are there any additional requirements?

✔ Participants must respect fellow trainees, trainers, and mentors.
✔ Participants must have health insurance covering them during the training (both online and in-person).
✔ Travel expenses within Brussels (such as metro or bus tickets) are covered by the participant.
✔ Participants must complete a final evaluation and agree to provide follow-up feedback.

11. What happens if I can’t fulfill my commitment?
